Explanation of Treatment Options:
1.) Cooltouch CTEV®
2.) The Vein Closure Procedure (Radiofrequency Ablation)
- Radiofrequency Ablation, or “RFA,” is a minimally invasive option performed in our office on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, Dr. McQuaid will position the Closure Catheter into the diseased vein, through a small opening in the skin. Your leg will then be anesthetized with a local anesthetic agent. The tiny catheter delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the vein wall. As the RF energy is delivered and the catheter is withdrawn, the vein wall is heated, collapses, and then seals shut. This will relieve the backflow pressure, which is causing your varicose veins. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins. Following the procedure we will put you in a compression stocking which you will wear day and night for 3 days, and then wear during the daytime for 10 additional days.

3.) Phlebectomy
- Ambulatory phlebectomy is a safe and effective outpatient procedure used to treat varicose veins. Using very small incisions, which will close without suturing, Dr. McQuaid will pull the veins out using a surgical hook. This procedure is done utilizing a local anesthetic. After the procedure is completed, a dressing will be applied to the incisions before fitting your leg with a compression stocking. This dressing will stay in place for 3-5 days. .......MORE INFORMATION

4.) Sclerotherapy
- Sclerotherapy is a popular method for eliminating smaller varicose veins and superficial “spider veins.” During this outpatient procedure, Dr. McQuaid injects a solution called “sclerosant” into individual veins, causing them to collapse. The number of sessions needed to clear or improve the condition differs from patient to patient, depending on the extent of varicose and spider veins present. One to six sessions may be needed, although three to four are needed on average. Individual veins require on to three sessions. .......MORE INFORMATION
